Host redirect checker
Avoid duplicate content, broken bare-domain links and typed-in addresses that fail because one variant is not configured.
How it measures
- Four GET requests (http://, http://www., https://, https://www.) from one location, each following up to five redirects.
- Variants are compared on their final URL; an identical destination for every reachable variant is reported as the canonical host.
Limits
- Only the apex and the www subdomain are tested, each at the root path.
- A variant without DNS records is reported as unreachable, which is expected if you deliberately do not use www.
- Redirect behaviour can depend on request headers and geography; the probe sends a plain request.
Troubleshooting
- Two different destinations
- Pick one host (www or apex) and 301-redirect the other three variants to it, ideally in a single hop.
- www variant unreachable
- Add an A/AAAA or CNAME record for www and serve a certificate that includes it, then redirect to your canonical host.
